Ten Great Free Android Weather Apps

There are hundreds of great free Android weather apps that more than make up for the lack of paid weather apps in the Android market. The fact that there are more free Android weather apps is a great thing for those of us who like to thoroughly inspect an app before choosing to make it part of our permanent collection. This list is quite a diverse one with many different specialties. Here are ten of the best free Android weather apps around.

Weather

This aptly named free Android weather app, developed by Michael Bachman, is one I would recommend to those who just want a plain and simple, easy-to-use app. It's fast and very reliable; this is an app to try if all you want is a simple forecast and not many other bells and whistles.

iMap Weather

This app provides radar images and forecasts. It can also give you detailed current weather conditions (for local and international locations). If you choose to check out this weather app, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the great visuals!

Moon Phase

A very simple free Android weather app developed by U dell Enterprises, Inc, it obviously shows you the particular phase of the moon for the given data. Although this app lacks some additional add-ons to make it truly spectacular, it does exactly what it promises quite efficiently.

Snowstorm weather widget

This is another very specific free Android weather app. Snowstorm gives you forecasts regarding snowstorms and beyond. If you're like me and you live in snow country, this is definitely an app I would suggest for when you're out and about during the snow season.

Radar Now!

If you want an app that will visually display the current weather through radar, Radar Now! Is your best free Android app option. Simple and fast, Radar Now! Gives you what you need without any hassle.

AccuWeather.com

This is a GPS-based weather update app and is great for getting worldwide forecasts. As you might have guessed, this app was developed by the same people behind Accuweather.com, so you'll be sure the information you get is accurate and reliable and that this app will only get better!

Weather Widget - Free

Although there is a paid version of this free Android weather app, this one remains to be quite adequate in giving quick and reliable weather updates. This is one of the weather apps that will do just about anything for you. Trust me, this app would be a great addition to your Android phone. To enhance this app, get the Weather Widget Forecast Addon, another free app that does just what it says. If you try the Weather Widget and like it, download the free Forecast Addon and you'll have a winning combination!

WeatherBug

Another great free Android weather app that offers local weather updates as well as just about anything else you'd want to know about general weather. The updates are accurate and the add-ons (including maps and videos) are amazing. This is one of the very few free Android apps that are up there in a league of their own.

The Weather Channel

Easily the best free Android weather app available in the Android Market; it's also the most popular Android app in the weather category. The official Weather Channel app provides weather updates straight from one of the most respected weather sources. You can set a default location to get regular updates without doing anything else. The last thing I'll say about this app: you should download this app for your Android phone.

Android Tablets: Tablet PC Touchscreens, Capacitative Or Resistive?

Android tablets are the newest way to catch up with your friends, browse the web and check out music and movies. They are usually just a solid, black slate and they shed the bulk and large keyboard usually associated with larger laptop PCs.

If there is no keyboard though, then how do tablets workall How can you type anything?

Every tablet has what is known as a touchscreen. This is a screen that reacts to your touch, the same as your touch pad on your laptop. So instead of using a mouse to select icons on screen you can simply touch them with your finger or a plastic stylus (like a pen with no ink). But there's more, as you can also 'sweep' your finger across the screen to change page, play games and move icons.

There are different types of touchscreen however, so let's look at what they are and the differences between them:

Resistive: These touchscreens are a sandwich of layers that are very slightly apart. As you touch the screen and place pressure you will cause the layers to touch in a certain point and then your tablet will know that you have touched here and react accordingly. Perhaps opening an app or pausing a game.

Their strengths are that they are pretty tough as they are usually made from a kind of plastic glass. Since they are relatively simple technology they are also quite cheap, so a resistive touchscreen will keep costs down.

The drawbacks are that some people believe that they aren't too sensitive, as the tablet has to wait a few instants for your finger or stylus to make the connection between layers. They also really need a stylus or long fingernail as just touching with your fingertip sometimes doesn't register.

Capacitative: This touchscreen is a flat, hard pane of glass coated with an electrical conductor. The human body is also an electrical conductor, therefore when you touch the glass it creates an electrical connection which is your 'selection' just like clicking a mouse.

The strengths of this type of screen are that they actually look brighter and sharper than resistive screen as they are glass not plastic and that they register touch very quickly and easily so there's no need for a stylus.

The drawbacks are that they are quite expensive as they are complex and, being glass, are prone to breaking if the tablet is dropped or squashed.

So which to choose? Honestly neither is better than the other, but you may want to think about if you're happy to use a stylus instead of your finger. Capacitative screens can often look brighter, so if you're into movies then they may be the way forward. They're also good for heavy gamers as they can often react faster to your touch. However if you're just looking for an Android tablet for general use (a bit of email writing, music and web browsing) then you can save cash and have the same functionality with a resistive screen.

So if you're ready to buy your tablet where should you look? The best source is definitely online where prices are lowest. So create an account with an online store today and join the fun tablet revolution!

Stealth Android GPS App VS Non Stealth Android GPS Apps

When shopping for an Android GPS app, you are going to come across two different types of Android tracking apps. The first one being a "stealth" tracking app, and the other a non-stealth tracking app. Although both of these apps do the same thing (which is to track the location of any Android cell phone) they both are geared towards a certain type of consumer, so before you spend any of your hard earned cash, make sure you know the difference as described below.
NON-Stealth Android GPS App

These are apps that enable you to track the location of an Android cell phone with the user's knowledge they are being tracked. Common uses for this are social networking apps that enable you to essentially broadcast your location to others so they know where you are. Other uses for this are when you want to inform your family where you are. These Android tracking applications are the most popular, and will be the application of choice for most people. Not only are they the most affordable, but they are found in the Android app store, which makes it easy for you to buy and install.

The key point here is that the app is 100% VISIBLE to the user. This means they know 100% that they are being tracked.

STEALTH Android GPS Apps

Stealth Android tracking applications are marketed towards a different group of buyers. These buyers are people looking for a way to track their spouse to uncover infidelity, secretly keep an eye on their kids, or perhaps monitor employees when they are out in the field. These applications are NOT found within the Android app store, and are generally more expensive than non-stealth Android tracking apps.

The key differentiator is that the users WILL NOT know they are being tracked. This is why stealth Android GPS apps are so popular for anyone who wants to track a cheating spouse, because they are able to do it without their spouse knowing they are being tracked.

So which Android tracking app is best for you. It all depends on your situation and "WHAT" your reasons are for wanting to purchase this type of app. Obviously, if you want to keep track of your family or broadcast your location, then a non-stealth app will work, but if you need to "secretly" track your spouse, kids, or employees, then your best option will be a stealth Android tracking app.

The Basics About The Android Tablet

An android tablet is basically a flat looking, electronic device. It is considered a portable PC, without the luggage. You will notice that it has a big screen, which makes is a great device, for looking at things on Internet and watching movies, and also reading your books.
You will notice that the android has no keyboard or mouse; it is totally operated, using a touch sensitive screen. There is no need to use a mouse, when navigating the device. You need to get used to the symbols, and the screen itself, and they can also be converted into a virtual keypad.

Tablet sizes

You will find a range of different sizes for your tablet. When choosing an android tablet, it is important that you find a size, which will suit your situation best.

The sizes, you can expect to find, are between 5 inches and 10 inch screens.

Considering choosing a size for your tablet

When you are looking for the right size for your tablet PC it is down to you to find a size that is going to suit your needs.

If it is your aim, to use your tablet, for the Internet, and watching films, then you may want a screen size that is over 5 inches. Images may be a bit too small if it is 5 inches.

A 5 inch screen is a great device for putting in your pocket. It is just a little bit bigger than a smart phone.

The popular sizes, for a tablet, are usually 7 inches, or 8 inches. This size range is considered in between the mark. This is a little bigger than a smart phone, but not too big. This makes it easy to put into your bag. It is also good on your eyes, and will not cause too much strain when viewing images.

The iPad which launched in 2010 is most notable for its 10 inch screen. This is full-size, and is best for viewing pictures, images and reading eBooks. The only thing is the fact that it may not be more portable than a laptop, for some people.

A bigger application is going to be best suited, for those that are very much into the media side of things. The price range for this tablet device will range between $200 and upwards. This price varies, depending on the size of the screen you choose, whether it's between 5 to 10 inches.

To get a snapshot, of all the different sizes, that you can buy you should visit a price comparison website. There you will be able to consider how much you can afford to spend also, before you part with your money. All the specifications will be laid out for you as well.

The War Between iPhone and Android Development Is On!

Trends in the iPhone app development market
iPhone is extremely popular with those who have been using the iPhone and many more who cannot afford to buy it. The iPhone has always had sleek design through its various models, and the ever smooth UI never fails to attract attention. The incredible touch sense and the huge store of apps have several followers and faithful ones at that too! The demand for interesting apps is huge and iPhone developers have managed to bring about innovation in most of them too. There has been a constant demand for apps related to business, connectivity, utilities and games.

Apple developers have had to bring in many apps over the years to supply the apps as per the demand but with the recent launch of iOS 5 and iPhone 4S, the demand is sky-high. iPad 2 has also pulled in demand of apps suited to the product even as development costs are growing every day.

Trends in the Android app development market
Android is a super development platform for mobile app development for developers. Those having experience as a developer in different platforms will have fun working with Android and to work out the logic of the games as well as other apps. The Android Software development kid is open to invention and an experienced developer can get started with Android app development in an instant.

Android Application Development has made its foray into different domains and industries. The need is high for innovative games and utilities which can make the best possible use of the firmware and the hardware of smartphones. Since Android is open-source based, developers find it easy to get started with the whole development process. The SDK is easy enough to use for experienced coders and developers and one can start on implementing the ideas for apps too.

A Brief Comparison
In terms of ease of use, the iPhone takes the cake and scores better marks than its counterparts. Android has improved a lot in the ease-of-use perspective but the iPhone has managed to keep a fair distance from the rival to win hands down. Android phones consist of many home screens and other features which make it a little cluttered.

In terms of openness, Android is the winner since it is open source and opens to all. Those users who need their platform to be open always opt for the Android since the apps market the phone!

iPhone also boasts of the best battery backup compared to most of the Android phones. Android phones are loaded with features that have always caused less battery life. The battery life is lower compared to that of the iPhone. The battery performance varies over different Android phones but in an overall perspective, they are a notch lower than iPhone in terms of powerful batteries.

Both the mobile platforms support multi-tasking to different degrees of success. iPhone helps in multi-tasking without hampering the overall working of the phone with several battery enhancements.

The iPhone's software keyboard is also said to be superior to the Android's default keyboard. The iPhone is said to have better features and scope whereas it is found that Android devices cannot even search emails.

Brief Introduction to Android Operating System

For those who are always paying attention to the development of cell phone, it must be very common to see the word Android. However, most of us may only familiar with the name. Here I would like to share the brief introduction of Android operate system with you.

Android is announced as the name of the mobile phone operating system which is developed on the Linux-based platform by Google on November 5, 2007. This new platform is consisted of operating system, middleware, user interface and the application software, which is claimed to be the first open and complete mobile software which is truly created for mobile terminals. At present, the latest versions are Android 2.3 Gingerbread and Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

As we all known, Android is developed by Google at the beginning and later it was undertaken by Open Handset Alliance. Android operating system adopts the software stack structure and is divided into three parts. The underlying Linux kernel only provides the basic functionality while other application software is developed by the companies themselves, some of the procedures are written in Java. By the end of 2010, it was showed by the related data that Android OS which is formal launched for only two years was in advance of Nokia Symbian OS which has dominated for many years. Currently, Android operating system has been adopted by the major mobile phone manufacturers including HTC, Samsung, Motorola, LG, and Sony Ericsson and so on. Nowadays, Android operating system is the world's most popular smart phone platform. What's more, Android system not only applies to smart phones but also applies to tablets.

With the highly developing technology, Android OS has transformed from Android 1.5 to the latest Android 2.3. Android 2.0/2.1 (Eclair) restored the user interface and brought in HTML5 and Exchange ActiveSync 2.5 support. Android 2.2 (Froyo) brought in JIT optimization to the speed improvements and introduced the Chrome V8 JavaScript engine. In addition, Android 2.2 pluses Wi-Fi and Adobe Flash support. As for the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), it developed the user interface, the soft keyboard and copy/paste functions, and added the newest social network NFC (Near Field Communication). The latest version is Android 3.0 (Honeycomb), which is an operating system for tablets and supports larger screen devices and brings in many new user interface functions.

Every change brings excellent experience for users by the updating user interface. Choosing a mobile phone that adopted Android operating system will be a correct and wise choice for you.

Android Home Project - Control House Lights With Android

The Web search engine giant Google Inc., is more 'intruding' into a world out of the Web. The company has now prepared an energy efficient Google LED bulb that you can turn on and off with an Android smartphone or an Android touchpad. The Google bulb is proposed to save energy as least as possible. Once the control of lighting of your home comes in your hand, you can instantly manage it and save energy even a bit. Google has worked in association with Lighting Science Group to realize this amazing Android smartphone controllable LED lamp.

The intelligent Google bulb works with a computer chip, which helps you control the lighting of your home. Most of Android smartphones from companies like Samsung, HTC, Acer, LG, Sony Ericsson, and many other will be compatible with the feature. An application on your handset will help you control the lightning. You can just touch on, off or on buttons to control your bed room's bulbs now.

Does it sound great?
The Google LED bulb is also equipped with GPS system and proximity sensors. It will automatically turn off and on your room's bulbs when you get in and out of the rooms. The feature will save your time and the energy as well in a fantastic way. Even a single second's sparing of energy can be saved with the technology. Moreover, it is an LED bulb that itself consumes less energy than the CFLs.

Google LED bulb can noticeably replace all other innovative bulb controlling methods. You may remember the Clapper of 80s. It was a wonderful technology that you can just control the lights and stereo on claps. But the technology failed as it responded to your coughs and your dog's barking near to your windows. The new Google LED bulb won't have any such deficiencies, because it is made up using the most advanced technologies like proximity sensors and GPS.

In fact, Google LED bulb is part of that Android @Home project that is expected to bring several services under the control of Android smartphones and tablets. The project is also to offer a step light, security lamp and a light switch in near future. Google's decision to revolutionize home automation is a clear indication of the Web giant's plan not to confine itself in Web services only.

More home automation products are anticipated to come out of Google's labs in the coming months and years. Your Android smartphone and tablet will eventually turn as an ultimate controller of many incredible activities other than for just making calls, surfing the Web and watching films. You will be simply able to manage lightning, security, stereo and TVs of your household with your valuable Android products. We can't wait for such a world that Google is trying to realize in coming years.

Android Widget Development - Top 4 Must-Have Android Widgets

Widgets may not be as popular as apps, but they can be very handy. Widgets are not too different from apps, actually. They are like small portable apps that live on your phone. The Android widgets appear as small units on your mobile screen, and you can start and open the application (or connect to parent application) by clicking on the widget. What sets Android OS apart from iPhone OS is its ability to support widgets on the home screen?
Android widget development concentrates on making it faster and easier for the user to access her favorite apps or websites. Android Widget development is not as extensive a field as apps development, but a number of medium and large businesses opt for Android apps to cement their place in the minds of Android OS users. The best and biggest sites always provide a widget, or even multiple widgets focusing on their diverse offerings.

The best part of custom Android widget development is that the widgets on your Android device display all the relevant information on the screen, and you do not have to open the app except for when you need to access additional details. The following are some of the best widgets; they are a must-have for any Android user.

Pandora
This widget makes the life of music lovers a lot easier. Using Pandora, you can create several customized radio stations. You can indulge in several types of music to your heart's content, and discover new artists at the same time. Once you install the app on your Android device, you will never be too far from your favorite bands.

Evernote
Arguably, Evernote is the king of all note-taking apps. It is one of the few note-taking apps that come with a widget. The widget makes it very easy for you to manage existing notes and create new notes. If you are the kind of person who needs to take notes frequently, you will thank Android widget development for this app.

3G Watchdog
This app is made for people like me. If you tend to overshoot your 'Unlimited Bandwidth' data plans, this widget will let you watch your bandwidth usage like hawk. Most 'unlimited' plans come with a 5GB cap, and this app will track your usage and let you know how much it's going to cost you.

Power Control
Smartphones batteries are notorious for their short life. Power Control is another very useful app to come out of custom Android widget development. This app lets you save power by messing around with a number of settings. Allows you to adjust brightness, sync your mobile online and even lock the orientation of your device.

Android: Future of Smartphone Technology Is Green

The advancement in smartphone technology has lead to a lot of big players jumping in on the action. Manufacturers teaming up with development heads devise and design strenuously for newer and better operating systems and software's supporting the dynamic platform of their machines, in this case smartphones.
Android is the mobile operating system released by Google after the company acquired Android, Inc. The word Android literally translates to something which has a biological foundation and closely mimics a human being. Any phone that uses an Android operating system is an Android smartphone. From a technological point of view, Android consists of; an operating system, middleware and key application. Android Smartphone's uses a version of the Linux kernel that has been modified to serve the mobile environment. Hence it is open source. The Android operating system was first released on 21 October 2008. Since then, various updates have been seen. These updates have mostly taken care of security issue or have added new features. The fourth and latest version of Android is version 2.2. It is also known as Froyo. It has been based on Linux Kernel 2.6.32.

According to a latest Global Network Research, Android surpassed iPhone OS market share for the first time on global basis in March 2011. Android is growing at a faster pace than iOS and now holds 14.5% of global impression share on the Mobile network. Globally, mobile impressions continue to grow rapidly, increasing by 21% on the Mobile network over just 90 days, driven primarily by smartphone growth of 34%. Android OS should exceed 40% share of smartphones worldwide with Samsung, HTC and Motorola leading the way with handsets based on the open-source platform.

In Q4 of 2010, Android passed Nokia's struggling Symbian as the leading operating system worldwide. A growing list of vendors who have made Android as the cornerstone of their respective smartphone strategies is propelling the growth of Android. The vendors include Samsung, HTC and Motorola, all of which have doubled their smartphone market share in the course of cranking out and selling various Android handsets.

The success amongst the investors about this open-source platform is worth noticing as well. Recently, Tapjoy, mobile monetization company, is starting a $5 million fund to make it easier for app creators to shift their apps to the Android mobile operating system. It's a vivid sign that one small company is finding it easier to business on the Android platform. Moving on, Google Nexus, one of the benchmark for quality Android devices over the past two years has gotten upgraded to Nexus 4G. Nexus 4G is rumored to be packing a dual-core Snapdragon processor. It will also run Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich"; judging from Google's past Nexus devices, it will likely be the first phone to run the new OS.

Android application development has also picked pace as its market share and productivity sky-rocketed globally. Android developers and prospective Android application development agencies are working in tandem and delivering the best Android mobile applications for Android Marketplace. One of the most common and popular Android application is the smartphone game, Angry Birds.

Global winds of technological development specifically mobile application developments are bringing glad tidings for Android open-source. The future is no longer fruity and Apple blue, its Android green.
